TOP Newcastle jockey Allan Robinson's cup of success in big races really is flowing over.
Robinson added the Kalgoorlie Cup to his impressive list of cups victories when he headed to Western Australia last Saturday.Robinson turned in a brilliant ride to bring Violent Wind from last to win the Kalgoorlie Cup.Robinson went to the wild west at the request of prominent owner Rob Scarvaci.Robinson had won Kalgoorlie's main sprint, the Hannon's Handicap, for the owner in 1998 on Go The Grey."Rob had run five seconds in the Kalgoorlie Cup and he was desperate to win the race and he was hoping I might bring him some luck," Robinson said."It was a thrill to win the race for him."It is always great to win a cup race and it doesn't matter how far you have to go to be successful.'Robinson now has the Kalgoorlie Cup trophy to go alongside his Newcastle Cup, two Wyong Cups, Canberra Cup, Port Macquarie Cup, Tamworth Cup, Muswellbrook Cup and even a Merriwa Cup."I haven't won a group 1 race but I have won heaps of cup races, and I reckon I get as big a thrill out of those wins as anything," Robinson said."There is always a special aura attached to any cup and the ones I have won all have special significance for me."I will never forget my win in the Newcastle Cup on Maltese Beauty. That was really a great day."To win your hometown cup really is something special and as for any other goals in racing I would say I would just like to add a few more cup trophies to my collection."
